What is WaterAid?

WaterAid is an international development charity working in 26 countries in Africa and Asia with a mission to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world's poorest communities. These basic human rights underpin health, education and livelihoods, forming the first essential step in overcoming poverty.

WaterAid One in eight of the world's population lack access to clean water and over 2.5 billion people who have nowhere safe or hygienic to go to the toilet. Shockingly, diarrhoea is the second biggest killer of children, and together, water and sanitation-related diseases kill 4,000 children every day.

Since 1981, WaterAid and our local partners have reached over 13 million people with access to water and sanitation services. Children like Valy Adeline from Madagascar, pictured here using her school's new sanitation facilities.

By 2015, we aim to reach a further 25 million people. With your support, we can continue to transform the lives of some of some the world's poorest people and realise our vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation.
