Ambassadors Evening

We recently held a special evening with our Ambassadors, invited retailers and guests at the popular Wilf’s Café in Staveley, Cumbria.

The evening kicked off with Henry Iddon, who’d arrived a few minutes before the start fresh from a day’s skiing on, around and off Helvellyn. Henry is an accomplished professional photographer with a wide and variable experience of photography in many different fields. Henry talked about his passion and some of his varied projects. One was when he participated in the world’s largest mountain bike ride and cross-country ski event at Birkebeinerrennet in Norway.

In the autumn of 1930 author and forester, Haakon Lie, published an article launching the idea of a ski race in honour of the 1206 rescue of the 18 month old prince, Haakon Haakonsson, recreating the long cross-country route taken to safety. www.henryiddon.com

Cress Allwood is an all action girl, although she probably wouldn’t admit it. Always busy and always off on an adventure. She showed some amazing images of her long distance solo bike ride from Pakistan through to the high plains of South America. www.cressallwood.com

Rob Fraser, also an accomplished photographer. For the month of April, last year Rob worked as a porter on the 13 day trek up to Everest Base Camp: a tough month for so many different reasons. He got horrendously sick, his feet were ripped to shreds and he was there during the avalanche that tragically killed 16 climbing Sherpas. Employed as a Sherpa, Rob got a great sense of how it is to lug 35 kgs for a commercial trek up to Base Camp and why the porters do such a tough job. The Royal Geographical Society held an exhibition of Rob’s portraits and showed his documentary film. www.robfraser-photographer.co.uk/gallery/i-porter/
