Your new boots are ready for their first adventure. Now what? Here are a few tops tips from Lukas Meindl on how to break them in. Boots are treated before they leave the factory in Germany, but we’d recommend treating them with a care product again before their first outing too.
Wearing your Meindl boots for the first time
Lukas shares his top 6 tips:
-
Socks
Wear the correct socks when breaking in boots.
-
The Tongue
Make sure that the tongue is in the correct position right from the start: centre it and lace it up as well. The tongue must not slide to the side from the start, otherwise it will never return to the correct position
-
Lacing
Lace the boots correctly. For breaking in, do not lace too tightly at the top of the ankle. You can divide the lacing into zones.
-
At Home
If you want to play safe, you should initially wear your boots at home. Next, try them when out for a walk or on a short trip. Only then climb what we like to describe as your ‘personal Everest’.
-
Dewy Grass
If they are still pinching a bit – walk through dewy grass. The moisture will soften the leather and adjust to fit more quickly. A shoemaker can also help with the width.
