Josh is a young man with a mission, age 22. His aim is to break mountaineering records by becoming the first person ‘plastic free,’ and the youngest Yorkshireman to summit Mount Everest (8848m).

Our mission is to help him get there. So, for part of his attempt in Spring 2019, he’ll be wearing a pair of Meindl Vakuum boots. We’re confident they’re the right boots to tackle the trek to base camp.

His story begins close to Meindl’s UK home – in the Lake District.

“Reaching the summit of Scafell Pike 3 days after my last GCSE exam; aged just 16 and with my 70-year-old grandad John, unlocked a plethora of emotion, achievement, freedom and a real sense of belonging. I wouldn’t know at the time, but this would be the start of my Everest story.”

Josh has since been around the world mountaineering, climbing and tackling triathlons, including; the UK’s highest three peaks, Mt Elbrus in Russia, Ironman Zurich, some serious Nordic winter training enduring temperatures of -20 and a lengthy South American expedition.

What makes him a mountaineer?

“Courage, determination, unselfishness. These are the characteristics that make up any great mountaineer and although I’m only 22 I feel confident in my ability to express these qualities in any environment or situation. Since returning from the Bolivia expedition I have trained extensively in Cornwall and cycled around Lake Garda in north Italy. Over the next few months in the build-up to Everest I will be following a specific training program designed to push my body to the limits and pass all previous boundaries I thought were impossible before.”
