Tested by The Great Outdoors

In its review, The Great Outdoors tested the Meindl Journey GTX across a variety of terrain in the Cairngorms during autumn and winter. The boot is designed with a wider fit, and proved to be a light, flexible and dependable option for long days outdoors.

“The Meindl Journey GTX boots are light and flexible at the forefoot, making for easy walking for those seeking a wide fit.”

Comfort and Fit

The Journey GTX was praised for its roomy toe box and secure heel hold, a combination that prevented rubbing and kept the boot comfortable on extended walks. The extra forefoot flex gave a more natural stride, adding to all-day wearability.

“The fit is fine for me, with enough room for my toes to spread out and snug enough at the heel to hold it in place.”

Performance on the Trail

Despite its lightweight build, the Journey GTX offered reassuring stability. The sole had enough stiffness to give protection on rocky ground while still feeling responsive. Grip was described as good on tracks and paths, with a deep tread that delivered traction across mixed terrain.

“I didn’t have sore feet after many hours walking on hard tracks and stony ground … Overall the grip is good.”
